    DNA "fingerprinting" is based on the idea that no 2 people (except identical twins) have the exact same DNA. Therefore, treating DNA with a series of highly specific restriction enzymes will generate specific "maps" (similar to fingerprints – different between everybody).

    If a criminal leaves any body fluid or skin at a crime scene, the DNA content can be recovered and mapped as indicated above
