Should America begin fingerprinting and getting DNA from every American?

What would be the positives and negatives if the Government began to fingerprint every citizen and take a DNA sample from every citizen as well?
lol YAF, this wasn't an assignment just a discussion we had in class.

Why should they treat us like criminials.
Hopefully it won’t come to that.
Stop trying to get people to do your assignments for you.
they need to do it..
it would help the cops identify bodies alot easier.
everyone would be on record, not just the criminals and they can run the fingerprint in the database and find out who it is .
also if a child goes missing and they find something they can run the prints immediately to see if the child in question has been there.
also when in a murder investigation there could be multiple prints on something….being able to run them all could produce a witness and help eliminate suspects in a timely manner..
it does not violate anyone in regards to privacy since it has no effect on their personal lives..ex..like tapping telephone calls..
and the DNA would work the same in all examples above…
Yes, I just want to know if every finger print is unique! I bet if you did enough people, a couple of them would match (by todays finger print matching standards)…
Of course… once we found some matches, the data should be deleted. There would be NO other reason that I would want to see EVERYONE finger printed and DNA’d…
If we did find even one match – well, doesn’t that invalidate the whole concept and make is worthless to worry about?
I have been – ex military… I don’t like that I am on file!
I would like to see great use of bio-indicators (fingerprints, retinal scans, voice recognition, and face identity scans) used.
Just think of the ramifications! We could do away with money and just transfer money electronically using our bio-indicators (and a computer). There would be no hidden economies.. It would do away with organized crime, drug traffickers, prostitution, etc… Why there would be no reason for muggers to mug people on the streets. Police would have many more reliable tools to help them catch criminals.
Of course you would always have your crack-pot conspiracy theorists claiming that the government is doing away with your privacy. People who are making money with illegal dealings and religious fundamentalists (mark of the beast!) will oppose it… So that means our politicians would oppose it too.
Fisrst you would spawn a huge series of court battles since that is clearly unreasonable search and seizure.
Neg:
Loss of Natural Rights
More government control
It would eventually abolish our democracy
Pos:
Decrease in crime, kidnappings, identity fraud etc.
