In Iceland, circa 950, lived a man named Thord Gellir, "so named because of his stentorian voice" according to the records of the Isle of Man.
My last name, Geller, is German, deriving from "one who yells" according to my father and family tradition. Is there a way to make this connection genetically, since the paperwork will never exist?

1 Restriction enzymes cut apart random sequences of DNA.

2 "Cutting" by restriction enzymes results in DNA fragments with sticky ends.

3 DNA ligase forms weak bonds between the different DNA fragments.

4 The 2 DNA fragments from the original restriction site recombine together again, making recombinant DNA.

I have yet to get a clear answer on what defines a jew....especially when in concerns immigration to Israel.
If a DNA test shows someone to be of (Ashkenazi Jew) a certain haplotype, does this "hold any water" when documenting your heritage in immigration?
