The Caylee Anthony Case: is There Some Technical Reason Why the DNA Analysis is Expected to Take So Long?

Thanks jareyn2002, Even In RFLP?
Thanks Chris, So Not a Technical Reason, a Bureaucratic One.

Yes,, DNA mapping takes a long time because it is a lengthy time consuming process that can not be accurately completed in a short length of time. Be patient.

It is believed that the bag was under water for quite awhile and that will take extra time. There is also the tape and acquiring the DNA from other family members.

The FBI lab where the samples were sent is still drowning under a backlog of samples. A year ago, it was 200,000 cases behind. Even if only 5% of those cases are critical, that would mean that there are 10,000 cases ahead of this one. Dept of Justice has undertaken steps to reduce the backlog, but I’m not sure how effective they have been.

Late edit – I wouldn’t call it a bureaucratic problem, but a technology issue. The technology is useful and even a bit sexy. This puts it in high demand, but there are just so many lab rats who are trained in its use. Supply & Demand strikes again…
