If the state is not paying for it, insist that you each pay half, with it being court-ordered that she reimburse you your half if she is wrong about you being daddy. We have done it this way several times in the law firm where I work. The flip side is that you may have to reimburse her for her half if you are daddy, but it prevents you from putting out the extra dough if you're not, and extra time to come up with it if you are. In this case, she says he's dad. If he says he isn't the dad or isn't sure, he may well want pay for the testing to keep himself from paying child support he doesn't owe.
